'Kathak' is one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance. It is the classical dance form originating from Uttar Pradesh, India. In its most elementary ancient context, Kathak was the lyrical form of storytelling. The tales were mostly mythological or folklore; their performances were generative and they served the dual purpose of maintaining a lively heritage and sustaining a livelihood for the storytellers in ancient northern India and Pakistan known as Kathakars.
